Presentation
A chewable tablet containing 1g Fenbendazole PhEur active ingredient in a tasty meat base presented as a ready to administer oral anthelmintic for dogs.
Uses
A broad spectrum anthelmintic for the treatment of domestic dogs infected with immature and mature stages of nematodes of the gastro-intestinal tract, Taenia and Giardia species.
Adult dogs
For the treatment of adult dogs infected with gastro-intestinal nematodes and cestodes: Ascarid spp. (Toxocara canis & Toxascaris leonina) Ancylostoma spp. Trichuris spp. Uncinaria spp. Taenia spp. Also for the treatment of domestic dogs infected with protozoa Giardia spp.
Weaned puppies under 6 months of age
For the treatment of weaned puppies infected with gastro-intestinal nematodes or puppies infected with protozoa Giardia spp.
Dosage and administration
Routine treatment of adult dogs
One half tablet per 5 kg bodyweight as a single oral dose (= 100 mg fenbendazole/kg bodyweight).
Practical dosage recommendations: 2.5 to 5 kg ½ Tablet 5.1 to 10 kg 1 Tablet 10.1 to 15 kg 1½ Tablets 15.1 to 20 kg 2 Tablets 20.1 to 25 kg 2½ Tablets 25.1 to 30 kg 3 Tablets For dogs weighing over 30 kg, an extra ½ tablet is required for each additional 5 kg bodyweight. The tablet can be added to feed, directly before feeding, or administered by mouth directly after feeding. Treatment should be repeated when natural re-infection with parasitic worms occurs. Routine treatment of adult animals with minimal exposure to infection is advisable 2 to 4 times per year. More frequent treatment at 6 to 8 weekly intervals is advisable for dogs in kennels. Weaned puppies under 6 months of age One half tablet per 10 kg bodyweight daily for 3 consecutive days given to weaned pups by adding to feed directly before feeding. Or alternatively, administered by mouth directly after feeding (= 50 mg fenbendazole/kg bodyweight daily for 3 days).
Practical dosage recommendations:
5 to 10 kg ½ Tablet daily for three consecutive days
10.1 to 20 kg 1 Tablet daily for three consecutive days
For weaned puppies under 6 months of age weighing over 20 kg, an extra ½ tablet is required daily for each additional 10 kg bodyweight.
Owing to the small average bodyweight of unweaned puppies and weaned puppies below 5 kg, accurate dosing of these animals can not be attained using Panacur Favourites for Dogs, it is recommended that alternative formulations of Panacur be used e.g. Panacur Paste.
Pregnant bitches
One half tablet per 20 kg bodyweight daily from day 40 of pregnancy continuously to 2 days post-whelping (approximately 25 days) (= 25 mg fenbendazole/kg bodyweight daily).
Practical dosage recommendations:
10 to 20 kg ½ Tablet daily for approx. 25 days
20.1 to 40 kg 1 Tablet daily for approx. 25 days
For bitches weighing over 40 kg, an extra ½ tablet is required daily for each additional 20 kg bodyweight. The tablet can be added to feed, directly before feeding, or administered by mouth directly after feeding.
Increased dosing for specific infections
For the treatment of clinical worm infestations in adult dogs or Giardia spp. infections in dogs, administer ½ tablet per 10 kg bodyweight daily for 3 consecutive days. (= 50 mg fenbendazole/kg bodyweight daily for 3 days). The tablet can be added to feed, directly before feeding, or administered by mouth directly after feeding.
Contra-indications, warnings, etc
Due to the minimum dosage that can be accurately attained using Panacur Favourites for Dogs, the product should not be used for the following indications: Weaned or unweaned puppies weighing less than 5kg. Treatment of clinical infections, in adult dogs weighing less than 5kg. Pregnant bitches weighing less than 10kg where prolonged treatment at 25mg/kg/day is required. Assess bodyweight as accurately as possible before calculating the dosage. Direct contact with the skin should be kept to a minimum. Wash hands after handling the product. For animal treatment only. Keep out of reach of children
Pharmaceutical precautions
Do not store above 25°C. Protect from freezing. Do not store this product with food for human consumption. Unused halved tablets should be disposed of with household refuse and not returned to the opened blister pack.
